HARRISBURG – Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Butler) was assigned to serve on four standing House committees during the 2021-22 Legislative Session: Appropriations, Environmental Resources and Energy, Local Government, and Tourism and Recreational Development. The committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.
“The committees on which I’ve been assigned to serve focus on topics that impact Pennsylvanians all over the state. For example, the work done by the Appropriations Committee will be critical, especially this year, as we face another challenging budget, but remain determined to be responsible with spending,” James said.
The House Appropriations Committee is one of the most influential committees in the General Assembly. Committee members directly review and question spending requests from state agencies, as well as create the final budget considered by all other members.
The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee works with the Departments of Environmental Protection and Conservation and Natural Resources on issues including oil and gas development, land recycling, and environmental remediation and environmental permitting.
The Local Government Committee considers bills dealing with the municipal codes by which local governments operate.
The Tourism and Recreational Development Committee focuses on state travel marketing initiatives, scenic roadways, agritourism, hotel and lodging issues, winery promotion and regulation of sports memorabilia.
“As I work in Harrisburg, whether on a committee or facing general votes, the people of the 64th District remain foremost in my mind, with the goal of serving their best interests always the top priority,” James added.
